The #SET100 list has been published! It contains the top 100 energy & mobility start-ups that applied for this year’s SET Award.
The scores from both the Early Metrics SET-specific start-up model and those scores provided by our high-level jury were compared, analysed, weighted and combined to produce the most promising, innovating and inspiring top 100 energy & mobility start-ups of 2021.
SET Award 2021: Presenting this year’s SET100
From Canada to Algeria, from Colombia to Indonesia, 543 start-ups from over 89 different countries have applied. The SET100 start-ups are competing in one of the following five categories: Clean Energy Generation (23), Demand-Side Innovation (23), Energy Distribution & Storage (22), Smart Mobility & Transportation (17) and Quality Access & SDG-7 (15). In terms of technical maturity, most start-ups have already reached a stable and deployable product stage (42), have a new product or service in development (17) or a minimum viable product (15). Regarding commercial maturity, 32 start-ups have a turnover of more than €250.000, 41 start-ups have first users, paid trials or customers and 21 start-ups have already surpassed €1.2M turnover annually.
The diverse and inspiring SET100 and their solutions to fight climate change and promote the energy transition, are now available as a complete list with descriptions for all nominated companies.
The importance of innovation in the midst of a pandemic was praised by Andreas Kuhlmann (CEO of dena) who said: “In these moments, I believe that innovation for the energy transition presents an incredible opportunity to build back better for a net-zero, sustainable future.” Dr Angela Wilkinson (CEO of the World Energy Council) praised the quality of the applications “Despite a global pandemic we received an incredible number of applications –the quality of which continues to improve year after year. Partnering with dena, we collaborate to systematically identify and promote the most promising new energy systems transition ventures across the world.”
