Award Winner: BeeBryte from France reduces electricity bills up to 40%

We‘re super proud to present the next startup from France! BeeBryte is one finalist at our TechFestival – so come on over and meet them in person! They developed a solution that enables power savings up to 40%. They are already in the commercialization phase – partners wanted! Amongst other interesting facts about the startup, CFO Frédéric Crampé tells us why France is their place to be!

Describe your product and its history! What is your unique value proposition and your business model?

Founded in 2015, BeeBryte is an intelligence solution provider, reducing electricity bills up to 40% with real-time control of batteries & HVAC in commercial and industrial buildings.

We temporarily shift heating/cooling loads and use batteries as energy buffers to (i) desynchronize the purchase of electricity from its consumption, (ii) minimize energy costs without affecting occupants’ comfort, and (iii) maximize self-consumption from onsite solar PV (if any).

With a team of 21, BeeBryte is now transitioning from R&D to commercialization and has closed its first contracts in early 2017. Our business model is purely based on a share of the savings generated by our SaaS. Without any subscription, BeeBryte offers a simple and non-intrusive solution with recurring revenues proportional to our performance.

What is your vision in regards to the future of the energy economy? And how does your product contribute to this future?

A major paradigm shift is taking place in the power sector due to the internet of energy and smart grids. BeeBryte is perfectly positioned to leverage this energy revolution. Thanks to a combination of affordable solar panels, batteries and internet connected building automation systems, energy users can now take part in distributed generation.

However to capture this opportunity, “Prosumers” need to (i) rationalise the use of their existing electric equipment & new energy storage assets; and (ii) optimize their power purchase & tap into all niches of profits & savings; in other words they need an energy intelligence solution using data analytics to create significant economic value. And that’s where BeeBryte comes in!

What are, in your opinion, the key challenges of the energy transition in general, and what are they specifically for your startup?

The transition to a lower carbon energy mix is taking place but it could happen even faster with a global consensus on climate change, stronger regulatory frameworks, higher awareness and better access to financing especially in emerging countries.

The affordability of technology remains a challenge. For instance, the cost of Lithium-Ion batteries fell 70% in the last 18 months, yet it remains quite expensive. To make energy storage a financially viable solution in select jurisdictions, companies like BeeBryte need to innovate and extract as much value as possible from energy systems.

Where are you based, and who are the key innovation drivers in the energy ecosystem in your region?

BeeBryte is headquartered in Lyon / France and has a subsidiary in Singapore. Today we have operational projects in France, Ireland and Singapore. And more to come…

As a serial entrepreneur, I have spent most of my career in the US and Asia. However I’ve been recently amazed at the transformation of my home country France and the unique ecosystem now in place to support tech startups and nurture innovation. Add the rich local talent pool, favorable market conditions for our energy intelligence solution and you will understand why we chose to establish BeeBryte in France back in 2015!!

Which results for your startup do you expect from the Tech Festival by DENA in March 2017?

Let’s be honest, we’d love to win the startup energy transition award! In addition, we expect the Tech Festival to be a great opportunity to exchange ideas with others, network, increase our visibility, meet potential partners (e.g. utilities, system integrators) and customers. Looking forward to 20 March 2017!

Our cloud-based Software-as-a-Service controls in real-time both batteries, heating & air conditioning systems (HVAC) to benefit from the cheapest tariff and deliver up to 40% utility bill savings.

BeeBryte adds value at three levels by (i) facilitating the integration of renewable energy, (ii) helping customers lower their energy costs while increasing their power supply security and (iii) making the power grid more reliable and resilient.
