The company addresses various needs in the distributed energy market such as mobile power and battery support for electric vehicle charging. FreeWire offers two product lines: the first product line – the Mobi Charger – provides alternatively level 2 or level 3 fast charging avoiding costly infrastructure upgrades. The second product line – the Mobi Gen – provides mobile, connected, quiet power replacing diesel generators. FreeWire’s Mobis are built using second-life lithium ion batteries, sourced from a variety of the world’s largest auto manufacturers and utility-scale battery storage providers. These batteries have been removed from their original service for numerous reasons, such as original use in test vehicles and end-of-life vehicles, decreased state of charge, and limited power availability. However, once they are no longer useful in original applications, many of the batteries still have 70-80% capacity for secondary uses. Although there are several pilots and demonstrations projects ongoing, FreeWire has built the first feasible, commercial application for second-life batteries.
